Anime Comparison
In the year 2005, WOWOW re-told the story of the Guyver with stunning modern day animation methods ( and also a higher budget range ).
Many people would think that this is the second time the Guyver Story has been edited and then re-told as an animation. but in truth... this is actually the FOURTH time!
If we take the Manga and the Live Action Movies that were produced, that would make it the sixth!.
What does this mean?
It means we have actually seen Sho ( Shawn in the live action movie ) getting "eaten" by the Unit G 6 times over and under 6 different scenes...
Our first anime of the Guyver came to us in a Animation Movie format where the whole story was twisted and Sho looked real funny. In this movie, Guyver II was purple and also female.
The other thing about this movie was that it had hentai elements in it. As the mistress for Guyver II was female, the Unit G was almost projeced as raping her...
The next animation is the one that we are familiar with, which was produced in the 1989 and ended in the 1990. It only but 12 epsiodes but the storyline stuck a little more to the Manga production.
This was also ended prematurely...
The 3rd re-telling was almost a total failure! the animation was so bad that it was almost like watching a Manga being flicked on a television screen!!
This one was worse than the second animation... I was only able to find 6 epsoides of this...
The 4th and I must say the best of the lot, is the one that you are seeing on this section.
Die-hard lovers of the 2nd may find it hard to port from the former to the latter but then, after watching 3 epsiodes of it, I have converted.
Although I have always deemed that the Manga version is the better of the lot, this redo of the Guyver Story may just bring us to new heights!
( AND no, I don't think that this anime would be abandoned again )
Below, I have extracted from the old guide books about the first 3 animation and manga productions. ( They are in Japanese unfortunately )
